If you have a second speaker of the same type, you can pair them together to create a stereo sound setup. This speaker has an Aux port for you to plug in your devices and easily switch between them. While it's a stereo sound when placed horizontally, the directivity is quite poor, resulting in a soundstage that feels a bit more closed-off. The Google Home Max is a better speaker than the Sonos One Gen 2. The Google has a slightly more extended low-bass and it can get louder with fewer compression artifacts.
AptX is a codec used for transmitting audio wirelessly with Bluetooth. It is developed by Qualcomm, and supports 16-bit audio at a bit rate of 384kbps. Devices with stereo speakers deliver sound from independent channels on both left and right sides, creating a richer sound and a better experience.
Google Home Max’s feature set
Its balanced mid-range makes it suitable for vocal-centric content like podcasts, but it's lacking a bit of low-bass, which can be disappointing for some music fans. On the upside, there are bass and treble adjustments available in its companion app. You can manually boost or cut the Max’s bass and treble levels plus or minus 6dB, but Google says the Home Max’s audio performance will automatically improve over time. The speaker uses its onboard microphones to evaluate the environment it’s playing in and will tune itself accordingly. Normally, if you place a speaker in the corner the low end sounds amplified, almost like putting your smartphone in a cup.

I’d never owned a nice home speaker until the Google Home Max, because I never really had the need — much less the desire — for a “fancy home speaker”. That changed when I saw the initial ad reel for the Home Max at Google’s event last year in San Francisco, and now I’ve had the joy of using the Max as my primary Home for a few weeks. When you pay $400 for any type of speaker, let alone a Google Home Max, you expect it to do everything you want it to. Unfortunately, when you plug something into the Max through the 3.5mm port, there’s noticeable latency.

The Sony SRS-RA3000 and the Google Home Max are similar home speakers with different strengths. The Sony has a much better soundstage, and its sound profile is more customizable than the Google.
Larger than last year’s Home, it features stereo speakers and a more premium design. A larger version of the Google Nest Hub, called the Google Nest Hub Max, was announced on May 7, 2019.
